Stop Laughing This Is Serious
Is a partnership between Lis Bastian and Ian Dalkin. Between them Lis and Ian have decades of experience in education, public & commercial galleries, community cultural development, television, radio, newspapers, cartooning, illustration, artmaking, multimedia and writing.
Stop Laughing This Is Serious was inspired by the Stan Cross cartoon "for gorsake, stop laughing this is serious" which depicted two men hanging from a girder on a building site .... one is hanging on to the pants of the other and, although obviously doomed, they are laughing uncontrollably. Lis and Ian saw this as a timely metaphor for contemporary society and it reflects their belief that humour can help you get through almost any situation ... even if at times your laugh may be a very nervous one!
We believe that humour, creativity and strong communities are crucial for the future of civilization.
Four years ago we set up Stop Laughing This Is Serious Gallery in Blackheath. Now that it is up and running and in the capable hands of its new owners Kerry and Viken we are focussing our energies on community development and communications as we all face the planetary emergency of Climate Change.

The Climate Change Project - Lis trained with Al Gore in 2006 & is available to do Climate Change presentations free of charge to community groups & organisations

Phone for our Future - A Resource site which provides links to government, media and useful information for lobbying for climate change action (click above - currently still being developed)
Art for a Change - An access point to creative people working on educating about climate change, from cartoonists to performance artists (this will come online soon but in the meantime Ian has made his cartoons available as free downloads)
Our Climate Change & Community Development work is voluntary and we support it through income from our Picture Framing & Multimedia Studio in Blackheath.
